TOP PRE-WEDDING SHOOT TIPS FOR 2020

There is a great little restaurant in Mumbai called Mirchi and Mime. It’s trendy, and serves modern-Indian cuisine. What makes this place worth mentioning are two things:

1. Their entire service staff is speech and hearing impaired
2. They have the most amazing appetisers you have ever tasted

When you visit the restaurant for the first time, you’re a little unsure about what to expect. After all, how many restaurants serve in silence? But the service staff are incredible, and put you at ease instantly.

By the time you’re settled in and digging into your Shakarkand Chaat appetiser, you’ve already let your hair down and eyeing up the entrée and dessert.

A pre-wedding shoot usually brings out a similar response.

It’s your first time working with the photographer, and you’re unsure about what to expect. You’re not sure about how you should stand, where you should sit, does your hair look better on the left or right, how many teeth are too many!

But like the great service staff at Mirchi and Mime, a great photographer will immediately put you at ease. They know how to break the ice and allow you to be yourself.

By the time you’ve shot your fifth or sixth image, you’re debating whether a professional modelling career would suit you better.

That is the magic of a pre-wedding shoot. You create a great connection with your photographer, and you both know what to expect of each other. The wedding day then becomes a walk in the park.

With every pre-wedding shoot we do with our clients, we give them six tips to get the most out of their shoot. And to make the best use of our time with them.

VISION.

Or, in other words, do you and I see the same image?

You already have an image in your head, don’t you? You can picture yourself and your partner at a location in a specific pose wearing a very particular outfit.

Share this vision with your photographer.

Your photographer’s job is to bring life to your vision. Once you share this, you open up the possibility of creating that ideal image you have in your head. You don’t need to worry about the details – that’s the photographer’s headache!

Don’t have a vision? Think about the type of couple you are. Beach, sport, mountain, desert, fields? Where do you see yourselves the most content and comfortable. That’s the spot you choose.

FASHION.

Do you know what is one of the most googled questions for a pre-wedding shoot?

“What do I wear for a pre-wedding shoot?”

The easy answer – reflect your personality. Don’t wear high heels if you are an open- toe sandal kind of girl. If you’re not wearing something you are comfortable in, it will show up in your images.

But that does not mean you can’t make an effort to spice it up. Here are some quick tips for you as a couple:

  • Colour co-ordinate and complement each other

  • Add an accent accessory like a hat, a bowtie, bright coloured stole, or a jacket

  • Co-ordinate with the weather and the location

  • Carry a pair of comfortable shoes to walk in from one location to another

  • Don’t change outfits. Instead, consider layering for a different look

HAIR & MAKE UP.

No, you don’t need to hire an expensive makeup artist to look your best that day.

Do it yourself, or get a friend to do it for you. But invest that extra time in your hair and make-up. It’ll pay off when you finally look at your images.

Quick tip: Don’t make yourself look like someone else. Keep it natural and simple.

TIMING.

The light is at its best around sunrise and sunset. You get the warm glow of the sun and makes the images look heavenly.

Majority of our clients choose sunset as their preferred time. It gives them enough time in the day to get ready and get to the location. The temperature is also cooler. And after the shoot, our couples generally end their evening with a romantic dinner.

Quick tip: If you want to use these images in your Save-the-Date cards, plan the shoot around 2-3 months before the wedding.

TRUST.

For your vision to come to life, you have to put your trust into your photographer. When you chose to work with them, you were given the confidence that they understood your vision. Trust that instinct.

The initial awkwardness of posing and smiling in front of the lens quickly fades away. Allow yourself to be led by your photographer, and believe that the visuals they will create for you will be truly spectacular.

FUN.

Perhaps the most important tip of all. Your images evoke emotional reactions when you see them. And these are created by the emotions you feel on the day when shooting the image.

So have fun on the day. Treat it like a mini-date or a mini-adventure.

Enjoy the posing moments. Enjoy the intimate moments. Just be yourselves and let the moment guide you. The best memories are created when you’re not trying.

THE SHAKARKAND CHAAT.

If you do go to Mirchi and Mime, we highly recommend you try this chaat. The experience of having an aloo chaat made out of sweet potato is unusually exciting.

And this is how we hope your pre-wedding experience unfolds as well. Unusually exciting.

If you’d like to book us for a session, get in touch with us here.
